You Can Now ‘Unsend’ Messages on Facebook within 10 Minutes

Facebook introduces an ‘unsend’ messages feature that can save you from embarrassing situations.

Facebook has billions of active users all over the globe. By implementing new features and updates, Facebook never fails to impress its users. The popular online platform has finally introduced a feature that lets its users to ‘unsend’ chats. After sending it on the Facebook Messenger you can now remove the message for everyone, to delete your typos or embarrassing thoughts.

The sender can remove the message for up to 10 minutes after sending it. To do this, you have to tap on it and find a “remove for you” button instead of delete to pull off the message from the recipient’s inbox. However, the recipient will get an alert that “you deleted a message.”

This new feature of Facebook could make people more comfortable to carry out honest conversation or using the messenger for other purposes. One thing is for sure, you can only ‘unsend’ a message within 10 minutes after sending it to the recipient and you will not be able to delete the ancient history.

Facebook Messenger never had an ‘unsend’ option but it was present in its encrypted Secret messaging product where you can set an expiration timer on the chats.

Somewhere in April 2018, the CEO of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg’s messages were removed from the inboxes of recipients which included non-employees too. The worst part, there was no trace of the chats in the message threads, giving an impression of the person talking to himself only. However, Facebook claimed that this was because it was limiting the retention period for the CEO’s messages for security purposes in the wake of ‘Sony Pictures Hack’.

However, the next day after this incident, Facebook announced the ‘unsend’ button for every user and also gave a statement which gave a brief of this feature.

On November, Facebook started to roll out this feature with the current “Remove for everyone” with a 10-minute limit. Now, every iOS and Messenger user anywhere in the world has access to the ‘unsend’ feature of Facebook. You can successfully save yourself from embarrassing situations but it is limited for 10 minutes after sending a message to the recipient.
