FaceTime Bug lets you Spy on People

Freshly, it has been revealed that Apple is working towards fixing a FaceTime bug which allows you to spy on people without their consent. This leads to a question of ethics.

The alleged bug is believed to allow people to spy on you through a FaceTime bug without letting you know about their activity. This FaceTime bug was discovered when a video showing it in action went viral and was reproduced by various websites including 9to5Mac. Social media is the main source of making things go viral in seconds due to the billions of active users. The bug works in a way of hearing people on FaceTime without them answering your call.

For instance, when you call someone and before they answer you call yourself too. When you answer, it triggers a group FaceTime call and you will be able to hear the person you originally called, even if they haven’t answered your call. You would not even know they are broadcasting.

This hack is not limited to audio, there are various ways of access available to intrude in someone’s camera too. You can see them without them realizing this. Some requires the recipient to press a certain button and others can be triggered through the caller.

Where Does the Bug Belongs?

The group FaceTime feature was introduced with the new iOS 12.1 somewhere in October 2018. This bug has only been made public and known this week. It is entirely possible that it has been exploited for the last three months and this is not a good news as far as the security of Apple is concerned.

Apple’s Stance on Fixing the Bug

After all the mishaps, Apple is now working to fix this bug. According to the system status page of Apple, the company has now disabled the Group FaceTime feature preventing anyone to exploit the bug. Apple is now planning to introduce a more permanent fix to this which will arrive through a security update.

In conclusion, Apple really needs to fix this bug as soon as possible before active users of FaceTime stop using the app completely. This may lead to the downfall of FaceTime.
